And Suzhou’s box office during the 8-day holiday raked in more than 36.09 million yuan, ranking 1st and 7th in Jiangsu Province and in the country respectively, the same as last year. The movie-watching boom during the National Day holiday is a result of the steady development of Suzhou’s film market. The city’s box office takings for the 2025 Spring Festival holiday reached 157 million yuan, increasing by 35% year-on-year (similarly hereinafter), ranking 1st in Jiangsu Province and rising from 9th place last year to 7th in the country. During the May Day holiday, Suzhou achieved a box office revenue of 14,995,400 yuan, ranking 1st in the province and 8th in the country. And the box office for the 2025 summer break exceeded 256 million yuan, a growth of 9.12%, ranking 1st in Jiangsu Province and 7th in the country. The cinemas across the city attracted about 6,704,700 viewers, up by 17.44%.
Suzhou’s film market continued to flourish during the just-concluded National Day holiday, generating a total of over 36.09 million yuan in revenue. The number of screenings of films across the city stood at about 59,300, with about 942,300 viewers and an average ticket price of 38.30 yuan.
This year, a series of measures have been taken to boost the development of the local film industry. During the Spring Festival holiday, consumption vouchers were issued to over 407,000 viewers, which helped generate a box office revenue of over 20 million yuan. In early July, local authorities launched another promotion activity, issuing vouchers to boost summer film consumption, which benefited nearly 210,000 viewers and helped generate a box office of over 8.2 million yuan.
